hi my internal PSU has finally given up the ghost so will have to order a recap lit in the new year (i dont like ordering over Christmas as temporary postman prat tends to lose or damage stuff ) while waiting i came across some USB c power supplies and various ways to replace the standard PSU which look like fun builds
i want to keep my original PSU , well , original and have one i can use with modern parts to see how r=practical it would be for furture purchases that might need such a thing
what i am after is either
a 3D print of the base mount with the switch and socket outlet (i found a mega st version but the placement of those items is different and im not any good at modelling )
or
an actual base which of course im willing to negotiate on
any help would be great

Don't forget, you will ultimately need both 5v and 12V to be fully functional. so you'll need to have a solution that does all of that.

So consumers of 12v are:

1. Floppy drive, but only if the drive requires 12v. Not all drives do and Goteks only need 5v.
2. The audio amp. Without it the sound output from the RCA jacks will be very quiet.
3. The serial port.

There may be others, but it's late and that's all I can remember!!!

Personally if a recap doesn't do it, then I usually install a Meanwell RD-50A. They fit in place of the old PSU and have both 5v and 12v and more than enough amperage to meet the requirements of the machine.

Whilst I see a lot of USB C solutions out there you can't beat a Meanwell as a solid replacement.

I used the Meanwell RD50 A in my ST and used the following bracket https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5176234

You need to move your existing psu switch over so you won't have 2 psu s if you recap the original.

The Meanwell is rock solid and stable.

Ive seen good things about the uSB c psu from Sidecartidge.

yes i had been down a rabbit hole with advice on voltages but thanks i had figured out the voltages , im really looking for the metal stand or a 3D print model of such , although the mean well is interesting im fascinated by the USB solution i dont know why , its kind of like blu tooth an obsession !! ha ha ha

yes i have looked at that and its a nice sturdy looking print , i also found the whole stand for a mega STe PSU which would need adapting but i haven't had any experience of doing design on cad so its a bit beyond me to make a good fist of it

sorry i havent replied i have been ill , thanks for the advice i can look into running a 20v laptop PSU with a couple of nice buck converters also need to find a 3d print for a back and something to fill the holes
