Floppy drive track display for HD drives too?

I'm curious about floppy drive track displays for the ST -would they also work with HD (1.44MB) drives? Or would this involve some modifications?
There's an article in ST Format (October 1989) (scroll down to page 35 "Making tracks") which has all the details on how to build one, but as far as I remember, DD (720 KB) drives were the big thing back then, and not yet HD floppy drive upgrades.
