2021 16mhz Booster fit under RF shielding - C070789

Hey guys,

just getting organised to install the latest version 16mhz Booster into an STF - C070789. I would like for it to fit under the original RF shielding if possible, but I would also like to install a socket to the motherboard if possible.

I also purchased the C070789 CPU Relocator board so I am wondering will the Booster fit under the RF shielding if I install a socket to the C070789 motherboard, solder the Booster directly to the CPU Relocator board without a socket, and solder a socket to the 16mhz Booster. Will this fit, or will I need to solder the 68k directly to the Booster PCB?

Thanks.

That is generally not enough clearance to fit a relocater board into a socket and still fit underneath the shielding at the front of the motherboard. There is only enough clearance for a socket and a CPU and the header pins and PCB are likely going to be a lot taller than that combination and will not fit. Which is exactly why the relocater board exists to move the whole thing further backwards to give more height.

Hmmmm. okay, so is there enough room to install a single socket (to the motherboard, solder the Booster directly to the relocator board and solder the cpu directly to the Booster? I really didn't want to solder the CPU directly to the Booster, but I guess I could live with that.

Would this fit? I really do not want to solder the relocator board directly to the STF motherboard for the simple reason that it would be covering several logic IC's, making it difficult to ever get to them in the future without having to completely desolder the relocator board.

Or, am I stuck having to solder the relocator board directly to the motherboard and just hoping those logic IC's never fail?

If I do need to solder the relocator directly to the motherboard then is there enough room to solder a socket to both the top side of the relocator and also the Booster?

Thanks for your help.

In all honesty, the top shield is completely unnecessary and you'd be just as well disposing of it and installing it the way you want with sockets.

The bottom shield should be kept though as it is a necessary part of the structure.
