This one just sparked my interest because I just happened to see this post on Facebook..

Some others notice that the CPU is soldered down and a lot of chips are now in sockets which they are not ordinarily.. I notice there is no blitter patch..

The guy said "the box has blitter upgraded sticker on it"

I asked for a closeup above the blitter, not sure I recognised the brand ? But a little odd as it is actually stamped 1987. When normally they are like 8908. Normally ST / National brands IIRC in general. Maybe IMP not sure ?



Just thought it was slightly interesting enough to document it..

Sorry to nitpick, but there never has been such a thing as "Signetics Thompson". STMicroelectronics used to be SGS-Thomson.

The logo is actually the one of "IST", a subsidiary of SGS. Apparently, that subsidiary was not too successful, because shortly afterwards the Blitters were made with the "ST" logo of the newly merged parent company.

I know it looked familiar. I reponded to that thread as well on FB. Every chip in a socket... highly unusual.
