Floppy drive exploded

Somebody seen this before? Epson smd380.
Floppy drive in an STE let the magic smoke out (Black smoke and a nasty noise and smell).
Checked the mb with a gotek. Computer still seems to be able to format and read write.
I can see a black burn mark in the floppy drive.
Not sure it there used to be some component there. Maybe a cap?
Smells pretty bad.
