TT suddenly stopped reading 1.44mb

Hi guys,

I really don't know where to start looking, why would my TT suddenly stop reading 1.44mb floppies? 720k is still ok.

To be clear: I have a Gotek, not a real drive. But it's worked literally for 5 years with the Gotek. I have 1.44mb and 720k blank floppy images on the SD card, when I choose the 1.44mb image TOS will just say something along the lines of 'Disk not readable / corrupted'. When I choose the 720k it works fine.

I don't have another 1.44mb drive to test, but I highly doubt the Gotek is malfunctioning...

Do you have a different USB stick you can try with it?

Really stupid question, but worth ruling out: have you tried a different 1.44 image?

My goteks have a habit of bolloxing up the images if the right combination of factors occur.

Yeah I suppose you guys are correct, try the easy fixes first :) I'll report back once I try a new card and image.

Today I formatted the sd-card with the official sd-card formatter tool with overwrite enabled, just to make sure. Then I copied new images and tried again, unfortunately only 720k working still :/

What firmware do you use on the Gotek?

Have you checked if the disk images are readable in an Atari emulator like Hatari?

Not sure about the firmware. It's a GoEx type. Yes of course, the images were generated by Hatari. Like I said, this has been working for 5 years. It only stopped recently.

OK, so do you have any spare 1.44MB drives or generic Goteks you can test with in place of the Goex?

If not, then can you test the Goex in another machine that supports 1.44MB? That way you could at least rule out the drive/machine.

Ok yes, of course, that's the logical next step. Thanks. I will get around to this, but not this weekend. I'll update the thread next time I work on it.

Be interesting to see how you get on.
