Please welcome into the fold my latest acquisition, an Amiga 500 thanks to @JezC :)


Before anybody mentions, no I haven't successfully made a workbench boot disk yet, it seems that I don't yet have the GreaseWeazel skills to make it happen, so instead I have pulled out my copy of Easy ADF (I paid for it BTW) and my Amiga 1200 to see if I can rectify that situation, but now it's time for sleep and tomorrow is another day.

Maybe check and recap the PSU, but the rest is normally rock solid.
Looks like a rev.5, hopefully a rev6

Any idea's what you are going to do to it?

I keep my A1200 for its AGA chipset and its better expansion capabilities.

No plans as yet, just a missing part of my collection I've been after for some time. I'll post anything I do up here though :)

I'm very pleased with it and prefer the A500 to the A1200 as it was what I had back in the day.

I'm going to use my A1200 and EasyADF to create some disks, though I want to look at a Gotek and other storage options, but I do need something to get started with.

One annoyance though is that EasyADF uses the PCMCIA slot and if I have my 68030 accelerator board set to use all 8MB of RAM it blocks the slot, so I either have to drop down to 4MB or pull the accelerator out.

I now use my GreaseWeazle to write ADF images and thus don't have to bother with the PCMCIA anymore.

I have a TF1260 in my machine and it's PCMCIA friendly though...

The best value for money storage for the A500 today (excluding building your own) is the Lotharek 8MB FastRAM + IDE controller @ ~£65 inc postage.

Unlike the MrMkl IDE68k which replicated the Gayle IDE controller of the A600 (and required KS2.05+ to boot) this IDE controller contains it's own boot ROM and so works with KS1.3+ without using a hacked ROM.

I really quite enjoyed learning about Amiga! It's a very nice system. I have an a1200 with an Indivision AGAMK3 for HDMI output, a PiStorm32 running Emu68 with RTG graphics. I use a tiny HDMI switch for swapping between RTG and standard graphics (when I boot games) It's really awesome!

For a500 you can get an RGBtoHDMI which sits on the graphics chip, so you can easily get HDMI output for it.

These are pretty good if you need HDMI. The only negative is they don't support audio over HDMI so you might need something like this depending on your TV (or external speakers)

I've already got one of these :) Not that particular one, but similar. I feed a lot of my composite stuff via my Retrotink too.

I do like the sound of the RGB2HDMI though.
