Declaring interest for items for sale ?

In light of a recent "problematic" thread. I wonder if we should go with the notion of what some other forums do, in that if someone is interested in something, then they publicly "declare interest" as it is basically a first-come first-served type of situation.

If with interest is withdrawn, (normally some talks go on in PM at that point), then it has to be publicly announced "interest withdrawal" and the next person in the thread who has declared interest then gets next refusal of the item.

It is generally courteous to then write item received or similar so the thread can be closed.

Of course there is no way for anyone on the forum to really enforce this behaviour or what people ultimately do. However I think it is more courteous to use that notion.

It could potentially be made a forum rule as well. Then any potential sellers/buyers who do not abide by that philosophy could ultimately get a warning or a temporary ban from engaging in discussions in the future .

What do people think ?

And that if you reply to a Wanted thread... you don't sell to anyone else until the author of the wanted thread has refused the offer.

Yes exactly that was what I was getting at.

Would possibly need a "time out" period as well. Maybe one week and you automatically forfeit because of no response..

What if an item is for sale on multiple places? Is that allowed or do one need more items for that to be allowed?

It would still be under the "first come first served" basis even if it was advertised somewhere on some other forum. People could "declare interest"over multiple forums.

Though the seller should really keep tabs on all that on who said what first and where. There isn't much we can do here if people advertise elsewhere also.
