Oh my. I never thought id ever get my hands on one. But RMC Neil gave me a box of parts after doing my talk at the cave. Probably hoping i'd get it all assembled but for me this is the perfect machine to (possibly) try out the TF536 on (or a modded version)


I have the drives, io board, mainboard and most of the bits. Looks like i'm missing the volume knob, keyboard, mouse. I'm not keen on even trying those PSUs.

Nice. I'm quite jealous. It's one of only a handful of home computers on sale in the 80s & 90s I don't own (FM Towns being another). Hope you can get it working.

For me its like an arcade home computer. I'm really hoping i can do some software dev work on it after i get it working.

For Keyboard mouse I built one of these for full USB mouse/keyboard use. Logitech MK270 wireless combo works great.

One thing that would be really useful (not readily available and goes out of stock straight away in Japan) is an Integrated Gotek adaptor. People have an additional PCB to handle Eject signals.
I have 2 Goteks spliced into the original Drive wiring. So I load via Goteks but need the Eject from the original drives.

But once you get HD working that new HD image is great. Although if you only have 2mb then most Disk Images will work.

Also you probably have a dual/multi sync Amiga monitor? I use a Commodore 1942. But also have Dell 2214hb LCD (I think that is the model) it does 15Khz so ideal for retro systems.

Looks like you got loads of frigging goodies also. See you have a MIDI card. There is an open source RAM card which will be a piece of p*ss for you to build, and I'm sure a few UK owners would also find useful ;)

BlueSCSI V1 works really well and is cheap and there is a great HD image being activity updated.

The 2 empty DIP sockets on the motherboard should be for custom ROMs. This might be handy for TF cards? There is info about building custom ROMs. I have a set installed when I was trying to sort out SRAM issues.

These ones are probably bigger than the Twin Towers, quite a beast like Amiga 2000.

@terriblefire I use PicoPSU's for replacement. You can get a nice PCB for mounting, but I just Heath Robinson mine. You also need to make the Power on circuit, but that is a simple logic circuit. That should get you going and a normal VGA monitor will display the standard Bios screen. A simple 2 row DB15 to 3 row DB15 rewire.

Oh, does it mean we can expect TFX68000 one day?

I have a 1942 yeah. Will probably use that to start with. I'm not a fan of LCDs.

Midi card is the one that needs the super rare Yamaha chip and i dont have that.

I'll have a look at BlueSCSI. I have a SD-SCSI drive i use for testing the A3000 SCSI with TF cards. Would that work?

Interesting will take a look. For TF-ness. i think the most likely think is a TF536 adapted for the Xpert Pro. But initially some tests could be done with a simple DIP64 to SDIP adaptor.

I’d heartily recommend trying to beg/borrow/steal a midi board as the soundtracks are absolutely amazing! I’ve recently managed to find a midi-patched version of Afterburner and it’s bloody glorious!

An Ossc works well with the x68000 too.
