Hi everyone,

My name's Dom and I'm a long time gamer and retrocomputing enthusiast that lives in Canada. I grew up with Nintendo, Sega consoles and IBM PCs (which I reckon makes me part of a younger demographic here), but always had an appreciation for other machines.

When I was a kid in the early 90s, a cousin of mine had an Atari ST and I was amazed at all the things he could do with his system (gaming, homework, music composition via a MIDI keyboard, networking, etc). It was wild! Atari then went out of business and eventually, he moved on and sold his ST. We went our separate ways and I forgot about it. Shortly after, when dial-up and the World Wide Web became mainstream, I discovered emulation. That introduced me to lots of game consoles and computers I had never previously heard about. Emulation was fun for a while, but I soon wanted to experience the real thing, so I set out to find the physical systems and software. Being on a budget, that meant that I would find beat-up machines at yard sales and thrift stores at pretty low prices, which I would of course have to repair one way or another. This is how I learned to solder and use all sorts of test equipment and tools (I'm no expert, though). I eventually remembered the Atari ST - I checked out tons of awesome ST demos and chiptune on YouTube and that was it; I decided that the time was ripe to get one.

Two years ago, I finally got a hold of an Atari 1040 STf in good condition. While it could successfully power on, it behaved erratically. I learned that as with many machines of that era, the power supply was going bad and I had to replace it. Lucky for me, there was this online store that sold brand new, redesigned PSUs, purportedly even more efficient than the originals. And I wasn't let down! That, in a nutshell, is how I came across Exxos's web store and forums ;)

I'm absolutely thrilled to be here! :D

Long live Atari and happy retrocomputing!

I'm still surprised by all of the cool things that you can do with an ST and there's still so much left for me to try.
It felt like a massive step-up from my Spectrum in the 80s.
