Avid Atari Fan in Hampshire

Hi All

Just joined recently and wanted to introduce myself. I've been an Atari fan since the late 70s/early 80s after getting a 2nd hand VCS for Christmas one year. Over time we migrated to a Speccy before getting a 520STFM in late 1989. I sold it to my cousin around 30 years ago and have just managed to get it back from their loft (one key reason for my joining, but we'll get to that later). I even have the same portable Telly i used in '89 too, so you can imagine the flashbacks I've experienced in the last week !

I've spent the last 20 or so years collecting for many consoles, but Atari has been my focus point, mainly VCS and 7800. For home computers, I've also got a 1040STE with GOTEK drive plus an 800XL.

I got sucked into the arcade world in 2012, so have a smallish cab collection too. Unfortunately, it's rather light on Atari-branded machines, so best not mention that any further! :D

As someone who is terrible with electricity and electrical components in general, looking for a bit of advice on some minor probs with the STFM, but will share that all later.

I often roll out the usual arguments:
1) Variants are important. Those 3 are not the same machine, technically speaking....
2) It came in a job lot of other games, so obvs. i need to buy the actual console/computer to test it first, the i will sell it...
3) It was a bargain, they usually go for hundreds...
4) It's just resting in there until the next 70% off fees weekend...
5) That? Oh I mustve pre-ordered it years ago...
