Hi All, does anyone have a spare old 50pin SCSI drive they aren’t using and would like to part with? Ideally 2GB or above to go into an SGI Indigo 2.

Thanks

Damn, I used my last spare to revive my Archimedes.

Man, I cry when I think about all the stuff I've binned over the years, I had a large box full of 50pin, ultra wide & LVD disks that I smashed with a hammer about 10 years ago. They were all server grade 10K or 15K RPM disks too. I had another box full of cables, terminators, & Adapters that I also binned.

Kicked myself so many times... hindsight.

Good luck in the search.

@BennehBoy yesh I did something similar. I’ve kept my box of IDE drives though.

I think I’ll probably build myself a BlueSCSI or two instead

@PhilC Im pretty sure Ive still got some SCSI drives aound that size somewhere.

If you can hang on a bit, I can dig out the box of SCSI drives that I have.

Do you mean one like that ?

It's brand new though I have never tested it, so cannot guarantee it works.

I think it's a 2 GB one.

Edit: Sorry, this one has only 1060 MB...

No worries, thanks for checking.

@mrbombermillzy no rush, it’s not been used since 1999, a bit longer won’t hurt.

Ok Phil, give me a few days, as its in a cupboard behind a 6 x 3 box IKEA Kallax unit (if you know what that is) full of gear.

Do you need the drive to be exactly 2GB? (Im not familiar with SGI systems. So is that a file system hard limit or can a larger drive be partitioned down?)

Reason being, I think (unless I already sold them) the box I need to find also has some Seagate Cheetah 15k (9.6Gb IIRC) drives in there too, if you have the bandwidth on the SGI!

They were real performers in their day. :) Although they are likely SCSI2 ultra L/W; will have to see...what does the SGI need? Strictly SCSI 1?

@mrbombermillzy 2gb was really the minimum size so I should think bigger would be ok.

I have loads of IDE drives, just no more SCSI ones and the SGI only takes SCSI 50 pin drives as standard

Absolutely no rush though
