Saw this over on youtube, probably old news and I'm late to the party - but this looks excellent!



I found you can generally buy the chip quik branded stuff on amazon/ebay, but it's rather expensive. I found a much cheaper seller in the UK that provides a lot more of the stuff for half the price: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154231582043 - so I've ordered some of that.

Seems a lot better than taping up a board with kapton tape and getting the hot-air out, which could potentially over-heat components etc. For instance, I'd definitely prefer using something like this for removing / replacing valuable QFP chips like the Videl on a Falcon or anything similar.

I have been removing lead free parts by using low temp melt solder and just mixing / melting it in. It makes life a whole lot easier. Just don't get sucked into the "brand" side of things. Any low melt paste will work. Ideal for old paste which has gone off. Mix a bit of flux in it.. Etc.

The chip quick allege that its stuff melt around 90°, which is very low. I looked at bismuth alloy, the I found out melt around 130~140 and seems to do a similar job :

There is about 50% Bismuth in ChipQuik. 20% Indium and lead and tin of course.
