Hello!

I recently acquired a Atari Jaguar. With it came a scartcable. There are some artifacts, i think atleast, on the screen around the text. Some weird color. Is this due to poor quality of cable or something else or is it as it should be ?

Ummm. I think you're viewing this on a CRT?
I've not plugged mine in for a few months but pretty sure my Jag is pin sharp.

How about posting a pic of the cable? I wonder if it is Composite and not RGB.

Also to check, on your TV can you cycle signal through on the Input? Could you be selecting say Composite on SCART 1 instead of RGB on SCART 1.

(Sorry if teaching you to suck eggs!)

+1 for guessing that the SCART lead is wired for Composite Video; CRT or not.

Yeah, you probably want to check the RGB or Cvid lines for continuity. Do you have a multimeter?

I think you'd probably want to get a new cable anyway. That's just repurposed ribbon cable. Decent analogue SCART cables will have individually shielded component wires.

Like BW says really, it's never going to be great quality with that ribbon cable even with RGB wired in.

In the meantime, if you can prise open the SCART shell and take a good close up photo of the pins, that will help see what you are actually using (RGB/CVID).

It could be wired for both composite and RGB but the TV is not switching to RGB mode as there's not the right voltage on the switching pin. (Many TVs will default to composite and there's no way to manually switch.)

Theres a solution to that...Involves wire cutters! :twisted: :lol:

Depending upon the TV that may stop it working completely as it will ignore the RGB input unless it gets 3V (I think) on the switching pin.
