Hello, I have finally installed the Exxos clock patch on my Falcon 030 in order to stop the instability here and there.


Since then, the demos work fine without crashing (Joydemo for example)

I assume you added the 100K resistor also as people keep missing it in the guide.

Thanks :) I saw your topic about it, but since the clock patch is added, i have no problem any more. My Falcon works as intended.

So i did not added the 100K resistor. I did some software tests that relies on the DSP, and the computer operates with no problem.

The possible thing : I have fully cleaned my Falcon 030 (it was in a very bad shape with rust, shits and all), and replaced all the capacitors on the PSU and motherboard with expensive caps (Nichicon, as you can see the huge one on my picture).

PS : how do you upload pictures, i looked for that but have not found the button :(

When writing a post, simply drag and drop any image into the text box, or add it using the 'Attachments' tab under the text box.

For both methods the image will show in attachments, then use the option to place the image in-line.

The inline-image will then appear where your cursor is in the text box.

Always place images in-line, don't simply leave them as attachments.

My own machine works without the 100K. But as it is needed on some machines, you should add it to prevent possible problems in the future.

Regarding the 100K resistor, what is it supposed to fix or correct exactly ?

Adding the resistor makes sure the logic low level doesn't drift over time. Originally I did not think it was needed but after diagnosing someone else's Falcon a few months back I found that the resistor is indeed needed on some machines. A couple others had the same issue as well and the resistor fixed the problems. It is a known "bug" whether you specifically have problems or not. So should be fixed :)

Ok. However, i wonder if you could do a small PCB with the 100K resistor, because i saw the picture, and having it like this floating around, mmhh.

The track to solder to is very fragile. Adding a PCB would add mass and be a very bad idea. Soldering a 0805 SMT is likely the best method if done correctly. Its flush on the motherboard. It can't go anywhere. If you're concerned put some silicone glue over it or something.

Mmmhh.... I was thinking to put some thermo retractable gain over it to secure it, and also put it between 2 pieces of kinar wire (soldered). Would be much more clean.

I will try to add this as soon as i have time and the weather not too hot.
