Sharp PC-1211 - Inherited from my brother

Well, last visit to my brother and he gave me this:

The screens on these, unlike those on the Casio FX-720P which I also have, are know to die over time, and it seems a chap in the US has a replacement:

Since the screen is definitely dead, all bar some minor changes you can see when powering on (I think overall it still works) so I need to order one. Annoyingly I will have to work out how to get it shipped due to some annoying VAT issues, but hey ho, 1st world problems...
He subsequently sent me pictures of this too:

So fingers crossed I'll be able to get my hands on that too, let's hope it doesn't have leaky batteries installed!!
Once I have the new screen I'll post up on here the process of replacing it.

Nice.
I had a boxed Casio FX-720P off my grandad. I remember there was a few 'games' you could program.
That all went in the bin years ago. But I still have an unboxed Casio PB-110 here, must stick some coin cells in it.
My grandad had all sorts of electrical stuff which he never used. Managed to save a load of calculators when clearing out the house.

Thats a shame about the 720P, be good to see the PB-110 though and some of the other stuff you saved :)

Nice. The guy doing the screens says they fit the TRS machine too BTW.

Ok, so I'm doing a little experiment.
The replacement screen for the PC-1211 is only available from the US, and due to the rather stupid post Brexit rules that says orders need to be over $135 before they can be shipped to the UK, I'd need to order a lot of them and I only need 1!!
So since it's a relatively low value item, I'm going to try AmForward, which gives you a US address, and your item goes to them, then they pop it into a larger shipment and forward to the UK.
It's a new thing for me, but I expect some of you are also in the same boat, so I'll report back on my experiences when (& if!!!) the Item arrives.
How exciting!

Will be interested to hear how this works out!
There are lots of items I'd love to get from the US but shipping is way too much compared to the item itself. I _could_ have it sent to our US office & get it sent back from there at some point but don't want to do that too often, so if this works then I have a simpler (and less cheeky) option. :D

I'm happy to take one for the team, I'll be sure to post the results :)
I guess ultimately it depends on what AmForward charge for their leg to the UK, but worth a shot.

@JezC
Well, part 1 is nearly complete, the part I ordered is due to be delivered to the forwarding service today by 21:00 (That's US time).
So hopefully it will show up in my 'inbox' at the forwarding company soon and I can then test out part 2 and see how well the forwarding works.
Wish me luck!!
