Any ATR8000 users out there...?

My family purchased our ATR8000 in the early 80's. In the early 90's I archived a bunch of data to a 3.5" Teac FD-35 drive hooked through the ATR8000. Now today when I try to access this, I can't get the ATR8000 to read from either of the drives attached to it. Looking for recommendations on how to get the data off these 3.5" disks so that I can use them on a modern SDRIVE, etc. I've got a dozen perfect condition disks with data on them and I am stuck on how to read them.

I am open to almost any troubleshooting, but I need to know where to start.

I have mydos 4.50/4.51 on both a 3.5" disk and a 5.25 disk.

when I do the following:
power up external enclosure (with both a 3.5 and 5.25)
power up the ATR
both drive lights blink at the same time for a moment
power up my 130XE, the XE goes "BRRRRRRRRRRR" and does not read from either drive. in fact, neither drive lights up so it doesn't appear that the ATR is trying to issue a read command.

any insight would be appreciated.

I'd honestly start by checking all the power is good across all devices. It may be enough to appear to power on, but not enough to run the whole shebang, so it's a good place to start. You'll likely need to find schematics for it to understand what power you should have and where.

I'm not personally familiar with the ATR8000, but you may want to check for leaking capacitors too. PSUs in kit this old are often in poor shape.

Are you not thinking of the ATW-800? He has one of those.

Silly me. Now I see it is in the 8-bit corner.
