Hey all,

I'm trying to clean up a water damaged PCB and some of the chips are like this. Besides scrubbing with IPA is there anything else that might clean this up?

Fibreglass pen to get rid of as much rust as possible then tin as many places as you can?

Flush whole area afterwards with IPA to get rid of rust dust.

Some of those Vias look like they might be a problem too, so might be worth tinning and metering out?

The problem is not just what you can see, but what is underneath.

Fibreglass pens are great for this sort of thing, but you may want to try vinegar first followed by the pen.

If you don't get any joy it may be that there is corrosion underneath and you'll need to lift the chip to see if more repairs are needed.

If you can clean up with the FGpen, then perhaps consider clear lacquer afterwards to seal it and prevent further corrosion.

Careful cleaning with baking soda then it a ultrasonic clean i agree the chips may have to come off for pin repair or replacement and trace repairs
