N Channel MOSFET testing

Hello,

Hey guys, I've recently got a new SSP6N60A mosfet to repair a power supply but the usual mosfet switch testing method doesn't seem to be working. I have tried the switch capacitance test, putting negative on the source, positive on the gate for a moment, then positive on drain. The mosfet does not seem to be opening as it should (MM in diode mode) I am thinking it is defective. What do you guys think?

Datasheet: https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/last/psu/SSP6N60.pdf

Thanks,

Test it properly...

EDIT:

I would suggest using a 12V source as not all mosfets will turn on below 5V or thereabouts. I've not checked.

@exxos One more thing sorry, should a SSP6N60A be compatible with a SSP6N60? I can't seem to find a seperate datasheet to distinguish them.

@cmorley Oh cheers didn't see that. So this is an ultra low RDSon varient. I don't know if this is significant to the PSU operating requirements, it's a phihong psm-5341. Datasheet attached. Do you have any thoughts? cheers

One question regarding the SSP6N60 (mentioned in the "last PSU upgrade"): Is there any practical gain over a (working) MTP6N60 that would warrant a replacement?

Best,
