Has anyone had any luck with stuff like this from AliExpress?

I have got STM32's from there in the past, which although clones worked ok, but the failure rate was pretty bad (1 in 5 didn't work at all).

Personally I'd stick to RS and Farnell regardless of the price for stuff like this, but just interested to hear if anyone does have much luck with the Chinese knock-offs

I will say this again. I strongly advise you use reputable suppliers for your first couple of builds. Otherwise i'll not be able to help you diagnose. These CPLDs sometimes have dead pins.

Yeah I generally stick to RS and Farnell as know it's all genuine stuff then. Never used mouser or digikey as shipping times and cost for the UK has always seemed excessive (unless that's changed in the last year or so).

Just see people often mention AliExpress and just wondered if anyone actually does have success with them. Not worth the saving to take a gamble (and stupidly long delivery times usually)

Don't get me started with STM32s from non legit sources.

Some time ago I ordered XC95144XL-TQ100 - 10 pcs. - for EasyFlash. They were all OK. But there's probably a risk if you keep hearing about fake chips. It's up to you whether you take that risk, given that the price is more than 3 times lower, even with 50% of broken chips - it still pays off.

They arent fake. They're just damaged in some way usually. You ID them on the JTAG chain and they are what they say they are... but some of the IOB sites have had ESD damage and therefore the pins do not work. Sometimes they only dont work as outputs but are fine as inputs or vice versa. But its a big risk unless you have a lot of experience and can spot a bad chip immediately.

And You know why some chips are dull and have bent pins? Because these chips was solen in fabric and brought outside in socks and slips, they hiding them i pockets and don't care about ESD..

Worst case is when let's say 15ns cplds are reprinted to 7ns, it will kinda work, but it will be impossible to find the issue without logic analyser..
