Can you use a soldering iron with Desolder station ZD-915?

Hi,
I picked up a desoldering station ZD-915 (Switch Electronics have them for £54 new!). The big brother ZD-917 is a desoldering + soldering station.
I was thinking what is stopping buying a replacement ZD-917 soldering iron and plugging it into the ZD-915 to turn/switch it into a temp controlled soldering station?
The desoldering gun must have the same + more electrical connections (Power for the heating element, temp sensor? + switch wire for the vacuum pump).
I expect most of you might already have a temp controlled soldering iron so don't see the point, but to me it seems like I have most of the hardware there so don't need to buy a temp controlled soldering iron. Currently I just use an old school Weller with TCP tips.
Anyone attempted this?
