Things to try..

I can only currently think of one thing

In that if someone wants to try this, check the ripple on the power rails on most of the chips.. Then remove the three large SMT caps.. And check the ripple again...

I am really suspecting that those large caps are not needed... There are that many on the board already...I daresay half of them could probably be removed from future boards.

I tried this out as I had to remove a cap anyway..

I chose a "long away gnd point" and with and without the big cap seem to make no odds. Overall just 20mV - 50mV P-P noise which is pretty awesome considering the power point is some inches away from the PSU.

Not checked the SMT cap under the PSU yet, but will do that next...

EDIT: Similar with that SMT cap under the PSU, makes no odds if its there or not. So those caps are total overkill and not needed it seems :)

Well that's two fewer components to fit/go wrong! :-)

Yeah , about £1.50 each from mouser. Have seen them £3 and up though as well!
