This one is an old project but I have not blogged about it.

Don't worry RJ its not a new idea so its a finished project :)

So many moons ago I wanted to use an Atari ST mouse on a PC but wirelessly. I had an ASUS mouse, I think WT425 or it might be older version, given to me and for some reason I thought the internals would fit inside an ST mouse.

I actually lucked out because the micro switches for the buttons where the right height and in the correct position. To top it all off the mouse surface reader fitted perfectly in the ST mouse hole where the door and ball should be.

There were some slight adjustments but I got the board in and had to add some mouse pads to help stop the mouse surface reader catching.


A good dose of glue (hot snot) to help hold the board in place and the on/off switch which is accessible through the wire opening. I also got hold of a slightly smaller (shorter) than AAA 1.5V x2 battery carrier and hot snotted it to the upper part of the mouse.


So this works as a nice Wireless Atari ST (PC / Mac) mouse

I think someone in another group was doing a laser ST mouse board at some point.. can't remember if it was wireless or not now though.

I'm putting a Mini PC inside of a 1040STFm and am looking to convert a mouse like this. Can you double check the model number of the mouse and do you have any other photos? Wireless would be great even though I might put a fake cord on it to make it look like a normal Atari mouse.

I have the keyboard wired to work with a USB adapter using a Arduino Leonardo so just need to make the mouse look authentic.

My AdGuard extension is reporting the site as dangerous, malware, phishing. Had a look on my phone last night before this came up on the PC and regret selling a brand new Atari mouse! :lol:

@djglish - I don’t have the original mouse itself but I think it was the ASUS WT-425 model. I don’t have any other photos currently but it was as simple as moving the on/off switch to the front with some wires and putting in slightly smaller batteries in although 2xAAA’s May fit in the case. Other than that a lot of hot snot (heat glue gun) to keep the board etc in place.

I found an Atari mouse that was in parts. Our computer club inherited a bunch of Atari parts from a PC store that went belly up years ago.
I just ordered a mouse (cheaper version) that has the same dimensions. It should work. I put a Mini PC into an Atari 1040 STF case and want to use the mouse to complete the look. I've installed Steem to make it look like a real ST when I get ready to show it off. The Atari keyboard to USB was done with an Arduino Leonardo board. I'll be posting pictures after I get the entire system working.
