I know, I know. It's been done already, but I STILL can't believe that happened. It really tickled me at the time.

Perhaps I need to make my own 'burn' post, by having a bath, not drying myself off, then deciding to repair that old 37" CRT monster....I imagine I can go one further and achieve lightning THEN fire! (I imagine death would also be part of the equation) :lol:

Where I used to work the guy fixing monitors would swear about 50 times and go flying across the room many times each day. That was without water. :lol:

Going back about 45- 50 years, I had an uncle who repaired TVs for a living and his 'party trick' was to lick his finger and strike an arc between that and the high voltage cap on top of a huge vacuum tube, which I think was part of the flyback circuit, so we're talking kilovolts here.

This was in the days before TVs had many PCBs and were mostly hand wired like the radios of the day.

I half expected one day we'd get a call to say he'd been electrocuted, but that call never came :)

I guess he was kind of the Electroboom of his day.

Cool :lol: Yeah the frequency is *just* high enough it tends to burn rather than shock. I remember on one of my early Tesla coil days I was being arced to and didn't even notice right away :lol:

I used to make simple "lifters" with old monitor chassis I stole borrowed from work.. wow that must have been knocking 20+ years ago now :shock:

Yeah, he never got a shock, and I think the 'lick' of the finger was just enough to protect him from the burn as long as he didn't keep it there too long.

As an aside, when I was doing my apprenticeship in the RAF, we were the last group ever to train on piston engines, and that meant magnetos :)

Our space was next to a door to the next workshop and it it had a brass handle. It was often the case that the one of the spare magnetos was wired to the door handle and as soon as one of us saw the handle turn we'd flick the magneto over. It was fine whilst we were zapping other students, but once we got an instructor, all bets were off!!!

That sounds like typical 'squaddie' humour! :)

Years ago, I used to run a quadbiking servicing department and leisure facility for an ex British tank commander who owned the business. When he and his army pals used to get going, it was all sorts of interesting. :shock: :lol:
