I have a 520+, maybe i can test on that one?

I live in Sweden so the postage would be too great. Thanks for the offer though!
rubber_jonnie wrote: 17 Jul 2022 14:13 Do you have a bog standard 1040 ST of some sort, so not H4, not STE, that you can try it on?

If not, and you're willing (I'm assuming you're in the UK) to cover the cost of postage I would be willing to test the US on my machines.

I have ST/F/M/Es, Megas, an H4 and Mega STE I could test on, and it would at least prove the US one way or the other.

Entirely up to you, but the offer is there.

Also, which driver are you using again?

USatan seems to work well on A520+ although it has -38 DMA chip. Perhaps i should put IMP in A520+ and put -38 in STE and start looking at the DB19 port.

The main point is to verify the US is working elsewhere, which you've now done. It's very easy to spend hours troubleshooting when you haven't verified all the components.

If you can swap the DMAs over it's worth a try too.

It may be worth looking at U302 and U307, one is a bus transceiver, the other is a buffer, could be bad, but if the US isn't working on any STE or a H4 that does point at the US, so it's a bit odd.

Yes i am able to format a floppy @exxos.

@rubber_jonnie it does work on the h4

When i boot with floppy hddriver i get this. So i guess it's some problem with data transfer.

What DMA chip is this with ? Does the corruption ever change ? Does it change with a different DMA chip ? Are you able to swap the 1772 ?

Have you tried disconnecting the long wire from the bottom of the MB going to one of the resistor packs ?

I thought you had tried a 001, I didn't realise it was a different machine. But the only 001 DMA you will likely find is from BEST in the USA. But it's not going to be cheap. It might be cheaper to get find a different STE motherboard.

You could ship me your MB to diagnose, but not cheap to post and it likely could be some months before I could look at it.

I don't recall if this question has been asked, so I'm going to ask anyway.

Have you tried different SD cards, and have you tried just using the left hand SD slot?

Also, is that the demo or full version of HDDRIVER?

You said you're booting from the HDDRIVER floppy, but are you able to partition the drives once booted and install HDDRIVER to the US?

It's with the -38 chip. Changing to IMP chip didn't change corruption its the same. Unable to swap 1772 because it is soldered on. Nothing changes when i disconnected the long wire from U401(Pin 1) to the resistor pack.

@rubber_jonnie I have tried with SD card, without, different SD card and the left slot. When i boot HDUTIL it doesn't recognize any devices.

BTW i haven't been able to look into U302 or U307's functionality yet.

So can you confirm the -38 passes this program ? Also you need to check the contents on sector tests on a PC or something to see if the pattern looks correct.

Without really doing anything special it just started to work yesterday and so far i havent been able to recreate the problem, it just boots. Maybe there was dirt on the DB contact that dissappeared while unplugging and plugging it in.

Anyway it is working so far so i guess thats good. The future will tell...

Sorry to necro this thread but i wanted it to have a conclusion. It turned out to be the cable used by USatan that was the issue. No problem after changing the cable and i have used it extensively.
