You have to be careful with UPSes as the cheaper ones are square wave output not sine like mains.

It would be easier to get a UPS with IEC connectors (kettle lead) and then replace the 13 amp plug on some four ways extensions. This will even out the load on each socket and you can distribute them to different locations if you have long cables.

That's exactly what I used to do with my UPS, it makes life a lot easier.

The boxes in my workshop and I ran a cable through the loft into my bedroom and just daisy chained load of extension sockets together. So my whole room is powered by the UPSU now. I don't want anything to cut out while I'm 3-D printing or doing stuff on the PC etc.

I can pretty much run for several hours of that setup. I had the same problem as you that the power would trip out for a couple of seconds and it was enough to knock my PC off. I'm generally pretty good at saving my work every few minutes, but sometimes I forget, which is ironically when the power cuts happen.

My mother had the same problem with the DVD box as it was constantly going off and corrupting stuff and we had to always do a factory reset then update the firmware and reaching the whole thing. So mother has a smaller 620VA one behind the telly so it least that has some backup power.

Been operating like this for the past few years and not had any problems since.

Those ones from UBS trader or use power supplies bought I've never had any problems with them. I think there is some "rules" about companies changing them after two years as a matter of standard practice. So I don't think they are exactly old in that respect. Definitely a lot cheaper than buying them brand-new though!

I can see your point of the attraction of having sockets built on the top of the thing. But you would have to do some research , to see if its pure sine wave or square wave. A square wave can shorten the life and even kill some sensitive equipment. But those cheaper ones tend to not be very good quality either.

Battery replacement is usually scheduled every five years unless it's critical medical equipment.

I've been given this soldering iron but the tip is too big for the kit I've bought. Not finding any exact matches anywhere and wondered if there are any compatible ones from other irons from weller. Can't find that out either. :cry:

The removeable magnetic tip is 5.3 cm from tip to end.

Apparently it's the CT series tips, which also fit the Weller W61.
