The car is at the garage and the keyboard is back together and fully functional. :-)
Now I can type easily I can have a proper look at what's on the hard drive.

I think I'll refactor my F1/2 memory board so that it fits in an XI. It's actually simpler as it will not need the expansion header stuff and be fixed at 512K.
