I've finally bought the following 10Base2 to 10BaseT converter on EvilBay:


Not because the other one would not work, but because of its price...

I got this one for around £85 (shipping fees included) while I would have to pay around £162 for the other one.

It's a second hand item, but it works the same way.

I will let you know how it performs once it is delivered.

Thanks for the update @HigashiJun , I had thought about getting a switch that had both networks built in but I already have too many of them.

Yeah, I had also thought about that but the only retro computer having a BNC connector is my A3000, so I have opted for the converter which is IMHO a simpler way to hook the Archie to the network.

The prices of these things is just ridiculous, I got very lucky with the 8 port switch I found with AUI and BNC for £30.

Just take note of the termination switch on it, as you'll probably need to turn it off if you're using a Tee piece and separate terminator.

I agree...

Well, IDE just died in the A5000.

I don't know if it's the ancient Transcend 128mb solid state drive or if some corrosion I missed from the battery has come back to haunt me, but it's no longer found.

So, I've decided to just disable it, since I don't really need it and I have 4 SCSI drives under BlueSCSI and really don't need the space.

What a pain to remove the links to the old drive though...

All done now though.

A5000's can take an additional 5th Column ROM and a good candidate for that space is an enhanced IDE driver such as ICS Wizzo 5 IDEFS (3v15)

This greatly improves the reliability of IDE devices such as Compact Flash or DOMs

I'm not saying this will fix your issue (you'd think that once a device works with ADFS... it shouldn't stop working) but worth a go.

TBH I suspect a trace failure, as whilst I did my best to clean the battery damage up, you can never tell what's lurking, and given I have a good SCSI set up, I don't think the IDE interface is something I want to persist with, especially if it means more trace repair.

I'll probably pull the Transcend out to see if it's that, but with 4 SCSI drives and the easy addition of more, I just don't need it. I would say that it's bloody annoying though!!!
