Does the solder joints on the bottom of the IDE socket hit that MB socket..

No they don't but are next to them. They would be on the top for a regular installation

I will shift it 18mm if that seems best.. will take me a few weeks to get to it though.

Ok, I've got one unallocated and unbuilt ST536 left and enough parts to build it. I'll use it with that then.
