Goodness me!

First the mouse ball, now the platterless HDD!!?! (More secure than drilling it, no doubt).

I do apologise and MAY actually have a similar size drive to that knocking around somewhere if you would like it (will just check that its not made of candies/boiled sweets and its not just a shell before I send it though :roll: ).

Sorry! may have something more suitable in the loft (i.e.250-500mb), but still, after all these years, they may not work. Anyway, let me know if I can help and I will try to have a look for them.

Ironic coincidence (that Ive just noticed in the photo):

The box I pulled the enclosure from, which I quickly unscrewed to take a pic of the HDD inside (while the baby that Im looking after was occupied for a minute), also had a Bush Internet box machine (pictured) inside.

Thats a unit that can be hacked to run RiscOS as its basically an early ARM SOC with similar (but improved) CPU/GFX to the A5000. :D

Thanks for looking, but honestly, it's all fine. I just found a 128MB IDE module that plugs in directly, plus I also have a CF adapter and a 2GB card (Might even have a smaller one), so all I need to do now is figure out if the IDE interface is working, and if so, how to prep the drive.

That Bush box seems like an oddity!!

Certainly nore secure than drilling I don't doubt, but honestly wondering what actually happened to the platters!!

Would be very interesting to find out. The drive was literally passed on to you as it was purchased in the machine, i.e. platterless. As I was having trouble actually running the machine, the HDD didnt even get a second look.

This does beg the question though, WHY would someone go to so much effort, if its just to wipe data?

I've looked on-line for the 20mm mouse balls that the Mk.II mouse uses and couldn't find anything I'm afraid.

Where would someone buy a spare mouse ball from, these days??!?

If @stephen_usher says they are 20mm, I will attempt to find a suitable donor from somewhere if you dont have any joy in the meantime.
