@zChris IMP DMA's don't work in STE's.. Have you have that in since the beginning ?

Yeah, it came with that.

That is probably where your problems started from. The fixes are for the -38 DMA which is normally fitted to STEs. The IMP won't work in a STE. At least the tests I did, I don't think the hard drive worked at all, maybe even killed the floppy drive as well. So someone has likely screwed with that machine already. Likely it originally had DMA issues originally when it had the -38 DMA in it and someone's "fixed it" by fitting a IMP DMA which will malfunction even worse than the -38 in a STE.

Alright, that's a real shame. But it should still boot right?

Yep.

Does the STe still show a white screen if the DMA chip is missing from its socket ?

IIRC it doesn't boot without the DMA. But not 100% sure without trying it.

I was thinking i better ask this before i try it. Is there a chance that putting back a 2.2kOhm might help since it work with that at first :P

I think you've broken a trace when swapping the 2.2k with 1.2k. swapping back increases the chance of doing more damage. It worked before, so surely a trace has to be at fault.

If you are definitely sure you have the 1.2K pack ( and the correct bussed type - I assume you got it from the store?) and assuming you have it greatly orientated then as Steve suggests, it may be best leaving it alone. It does sound like you have damaged a track.
