Yeah, the smoke generator obviously operated.
It certainly did. Now off to read @rubber_jonnie's thread to find out what he replaced them with.
It was a 0.1uF and a 0.470uF X2 capacitor, I bought metallised polypropylene.
There is one across the live and neutral of the IEC plug, but note there may also be a discharge resistor between them too as there was on mine to prevent shock if you touch the pins directly.
I have no doubt that RIFA replacements will bring it back to life :)

Some interesting looking bodging on the chip near C57, I wonder what that does…

@rubber_jonnie which caps did you replace yours with? I get the whole X, X2 etc thing but there's like too much choice

@PhilC A couple of things worth noting.
Firstly, and most importantly, the Apple Disk II card needs careful handling. You have +12, -12v & 5v at the pins, so be super careful not to connect a floppy or Floppyemu to it the wrong way round or you'll stick those voltages where they shouldn't be. Be careful to line up pin 1 of the card with pin 1 of the plug.
Second, the gold/yellow card is an 80COL card and will allow you to use 80 column mode. It must reside in the AUX socket in the middle of the board, but be sure it's correctly oriented as there is no key in the socket. 80 column mode can be activated by typing PR#3 and hitting return.
You may have a small switch inside by OS1 that will turn colour on and off, plus a switch under the keyboard that changes # to £ and vice versa.

@PhilC Yeah, that's quite a bodge, seems to go to the composite video port.
BTW your mainboard is the same model as mine.

The smaller cap is slightly shorter than the original, however when I removed it it turns out there are two sets of holes in the PCD and it fits just fine :)

I've removed both smoke generators and pretty much everything else in the PSU looks fine. Someone has changed C7 at some point. And talk about long, those 1000uf caps are ridiculously long but I guess they are like that for space saving. Still, nothing else bulged or burst as yet :)
