Wow Rev A.. Yeah it could help. Time permitting of course, scope the exp, fpu, sdma clocks and try the usual sdma test programs. One way or another, we need to fit a v4 clock patch to your machine and retest and measure again..

I know you're busy like me. I mean if you have time to do the work before CL4 then they may be no need to loan me your board.. It depends what the results are..

But like I said elsewhere, the likely fixes are not using the falcon traces at all if the noise various drastically between motherboards. Some trial and error will likely be needed.

Time is likely to be very limited until after CL4 so I'll aim to bring the Falcon down with me (and possibly re clock mod I already bought but haven't yet had time to fit) and we can go from there.

I'll likely have to give my 'scope back to work when I leave (at the end of October) so I might need to buy one at some point soon...

OK no problem. Id fit the V4 anyway to do tests as thats what others used.
If you still have the old firmware in the DFB1X I can update that as well while I have your board here.

It looks like the "noise and spike immune" Falcon ram board is a win :D

It has been on test for some months now and I have not had a single RAM error, or chip failure since using this board :)

Looks really good !

PS: I'm also going to replace my fan with a CPU, that should ensure perfect and silent cooling in my Falcon.

Crossing streams a little bit with this thread viewtopic.php?p=135351#p135351 With fitting a new clock patch to @JezC REV A Falcon.

Now to fit a reset switch which actually works ! and removed that RTC (feking GND planes!! :lol: :roll: )

Also used the flux @PhilC threw at me yesterday !


Now just waiting for it to all cool down...

RTC now fitted and correct time set.

The thing had been driving me nuts for the past few hours :pullhair: :pullhair:

It kept locking up and sometimes wouldn't even reset. Mostly just got weird lines on the screen after power up. I even put back the old clock patch and it made no odds. Swapped the ROM, RAM, no odds.. The RTC is keeping time, so can't be that (swapped it with a known working one and no odds either) . I poked around various places on the board and couldn't find anything relating to a bad connection even..

Just kept doing this...


So made a bit of a guess...


It ran through several loops of GB6 now and just locked up again :roll: But I honestly cannot believe that the cap had made such a difference. I could hardly run a couple tests in GB6 before.

I will put one of my "super caps" in later, but I think @JezC you are probably going to have to do a recap of this motherboard :( I've done the clock patch, RTC, reset switch, but I don't have time to figure out all the caps needed and changing them all.

I've also updated your DFB1X. You CPU & FPU wouldn't run at 50MHz, so I've swapped them and its all fine at 50MHz now. I've put the latest V105 firmware in it as well. It runs fine at 50MHz on my test Falcon, but on yours it still seems unhappy at 50MHz. I've tried upping the voltage on my test PSU and made no odds.. so not sure what thats all about.. Starting to hate that REV A board now :)

Its very odd. It basically runs about 10mins then crashes. Reset and another 10mins then crashes.

The diagnostic cart passed 2 ram tests. Then chucked out address error FC0000. But could be iffy cart connections. YAART got about half way though pass 2 and locked up.

I've taken out the DFB1X and trying the stock machine again. But so far it's made no odds.

My only thought is to remove the V3 clock patch and try one of my V4 in it. But I'm skeptical there as not even the original clock patch helps.

My only thought is to resolder the SDMA, but I'm also not wanting to touch it either as it's been replaced before.

I'll have to do more tests on the diagnostic cart tomorrow and see if it runs ram test without any odd errors.. If that's fine, then I'll rerun YAART, if that locks up then it's possibly something like the SDMA.. But it does pass DSP2SDMA test anyway..

So dunno.. Anyone else any ideas? Or anyone else had trouble with REV A boards?
