With all my Amiga's, those SMD's are whats stopping me recapping. In fact, the total number of machines in general just puts me off.

Tell me, does rubber jonnie mean the same thing in the UK that it does down here?

Luckily I have just one A1200, so not too bad for me.

As for rubber jonnie, if it means "gentleman's birth control", then it does mean the same thing 😁

It was a nickname I picked up at school, for what reason, I can't fully recall, but it may have been because kids back in the 70's just thought it was funny!

Oh good, I'm sometimes amused when Americans don't get English (or Antipodean) slang.

Well, it's been a good day!!

I completed the rats nest of bodge wires required to re-run the corroded traces:

And after a spot of reassembly, we are running!!!

Got to give a shout out to Pawel and his site here: https://oldcrap.org/2020/08/24/amstrad-alt-386sx/ If it hadn't been for finding this site, I'd have struggled to make it run again.

Got a little bit of a problem with the HDD sometimes not being picked up, but that is way over the other side of the PCB, so unlikely to be corrosion damage. Need to look at the cable as it's a bit of a horror show!

Wow, just wow! Great resource on the site you linked to. Glad people share that sort of stuff. Amazing to see that all the tracks has 90 degrees corners.

Yeah, really great site, I'd have been lost without it.

As for the tracks, they are super neat and as you say have 90 degree corners everywhere. Mega fragile traces that fail just by looking at them.

Bloody Amstrad! Despite a recap as the very first repair, I just lost 12v, so no hard drive. Grrr

On a positive note, my Greaseweazle build should be completed today!
