To me it looks like the end of the tip on the pins in the plcc socket is broken off. Or are they actually pressed in that much now?
I have this exact pick and it isn't very good because of the taper on it. Also being stainless it hasn't got much flexibility and a bit is useful.

Well, if it's not too much trouble, that would be fabulous. Or perhaps just some pics showing the action could be enough. Yes, no problem at all waiting for the end of the weekend, there is no rush.
Btw, just in case, do you have spares of these PLCC adapters, or do you know if @Icky has?

I do think they are pressed that much outwards. Remember this was not from normal usage. It was caused from inadvertently inserting a scope probe too deep. I was holding the probe tip in one hand touching the pin, the hand was in the air to avoid touching anything at the motherboard, the other hand was managing the scope, I was looking at the scope ... well, you get the idea :(
