Does the keyboard work? i.e. can you move the mouse pointer using shifted arrow keys?

If this works then the computer itself is fine and it’s an issue with the joystick ports on the keyboard. This could just be the normal cracked solder on the joystick ports which just need to be reflowed. The mouse will only work in one port anyway.

I believe it is:

alt + cursor keys for movement. Holding shift+alt enables fine movement.

alt+Insert for left button & alt+clr/home for right button.

That is IIRC :)

D'oh! Of course it's Alt. I've been using GEM on the Apricot too much. ;-)

Follow the advice above to use the keyboard to confirm the system is working and that the problem is either the mouse port (very common) or the mouse itself.

One way or another, consider picking up a mouster so that you can connect various regular wireless mice. Comfortably the best modern mouse connection I've ever used.

I had to think about it for a moment myself...

Damn these other GEMs.

I tried the alt+ cursor keys and got no response from the keyboard. I'm going to try unplugging and then re-plugging it back in ans see if that works.

I like the idea of the mouster and may order one if my current situation does not change. Oddly enough, the mouse worked with no problem under the old tos(1.0x) so I don't know what could have changed with the upgrade to 2.06.

So close yet so far.

Thanks,

At this point, I am unsure as to next steps to resolve my current issue. I am unsure of my soldering skills to re-flow the connections for the keyboard and mouse. i wouldn't begin to know where to look for those specific points on the keyboard and/or the motherboard.

I have searched for videos on youtube on this very subject but have not found any that address this topic, so at this point I am halting this project for the time being until such time as I can find instructions on what connections that need to be re-flowed and the steps needed to perform them.

So keep the suggestions coming and thanks for all help and information provided to this point.

Thanks again,

Hi,

Thanks for the link. The post looks like it has all the info I need to tackle this issue, hopefully resolving it once and for all. I'm going to tackle it this weekend and will report back with the results.

Thanks again,

Tiny thing to note is that you probably have a slightly different keyboard layout from that page (US vs UK), which leads to at least one fewer dome. I think the long left-shift on the US variant is the only culprit. Take photos before disassembly, pay attention to where the keys are for dome placement on re-assembly, and you should be good.
