So now confirmed its not the US its my ST , i saw a 1040 on facebook boxed with aload of disks disks and two mice for 130 pounds so i thought sod it and bought it and US loads on that machine :) Happy as a calm right now

Cool!

So the question remains what is up with your previous STE then... the whole bad DMA thing is generally write issues more than anything, it does not generally stop the whole drive from working totally.
