You could make a buffer board for the cartridge port and they do exist but rare. Since a cartridge port it self is rare to get and to make an "extension cable" I don't someone will make this. Some put their Atari in different cases so they needed to move the port, so I think it was that it was used for originally.

Also, is it safe to trim the PCB around the connector for clearance?

I not know. It is a risk ...
I tested it with a Cubase 3 Dongle with Cubase Score and a LOG3 with Logic. It works good.

That looks great. I'll be using it with Notator. If it doesn't work that's okay.
