The Retrotink is more likely to work as it’s been developed with old systems in mind.

Exactly what I was thinking, though it didn't like composite from either of my Apple IIe boards.

Will try later, off to pick up a couple of machines shortly 😁

Cool!
Might inspire me to make progress with my H4 & H5C builds...

OK, so Retrotink is no good, but it is a base model so may not have all the bells and whistles, will also try direct to composite on my 2 TVs see what happens.

I did try a composite to HDMI adapter from the bottom of my drawer, but that didn't work either.

More a bit later on.

These old "just about working" monochrome video outputs are tricky to get going on modern stuff because they're so out of spec. The old analogue tellies and monitors used very simple circuitry which didn't care about timings.

Which is why I'm hoping this TV that's coming will work.

On the subject of video signal I did notice this earlier:

PXL_20240204_150112215.jpg

So this is the video signal on boot. If I hit break a few times with just the monitor ROM installed, I get this:

PXL_20240204_150648197.jpg

Which could possibly align with the message on the screen to press D/C/W/M that appears when ready.

If I press M and hit return twice I get this:

PXL_20240204_150728431.jpg

Possibly suggestive that the monitor prompt has appeared. I don't know if I'm just wishing this into existence, but I am a little hopeful.

I guess time will tell.
