Well done acquing one. I've looked for years for an acceptable price and never found one. Right up there for me with a Panasonic GameCube and n Amstrad MegaPC

The X68000 XVI has just arrived, so as promised, let's start the '開封の儀' (opening ceremony):


Everything was really well packaged and I even had a bonus: coffee, green tea, a (surgical) mask and a floppy containing Human68K.

Yes, same here.

Sharp made a lot of good machines back in time, but everything was Japanese market oriented only.

Gaming consoles apart, only the MSX standard has made a small breakthrough in Europe.

My imported X68000's were very well packaged.

I would say the domestic price of X68000's when new were too expensive to then enter other markets. They could never had charged those prices and made any market headway.
A lot of games would not need localisation for English etc, but the productivity stuff seems to be in Japanese.
Also the trisync monitor would have been a difficult sell. Most of us back then were using a TV via RF connection, so you would have needed it to use the X68000.
I did get a Multisync monitor for my Amiga later, but it was expensive (sorry dad!) and I dont think they were very common.

When you have to take out the entire other side Tower PCB just to get to 1 screw which is holding the PSU in (that is already held in with 4 screws) you know it is over engineered :o

If they had released it then I would be thinking there would be lots of Atari ST ports. Like the early Amiga releases, don't hit the custom chips and just port 68000 code.
Poor MSX had lots of Spectrum ports in EU, where it does have much better specs. Just porting Z80 code.

Interesting how there are some Microprose and Bullfrog games which were converted to X68000.

MSX standard joysticks give you the 2 button. And a simple inline 9pin dtype adaptor converts Megadrive pad to 6 button for Street Fighter 2.
