Actually, it's just occurred to me I don't actually know the situation when using a Raspberry Pi.
Gadget164's done a good video on programming with a Raspberry Pi, I'd suggest he'd know better than me.
Just in case, I'd recommend powering the DFB1 board with 5V before connecting the Raspi. ie. Make sure both are powered before joining them.
And, if I were being super paranoid, I'd have a separate GND line between them before making the connection.
Your mileage may vary, this is not a trick I have used personally.

By the way, let me know if you have any issues with the 'release' firmware (220329) failing after extended heavy use (>30mins with the case closed). If you do, there's an experimental firmware (220407) which I don't yet consider 'release' level, but for me has been stable over time.
The pre-release version is available in the source:-

When programming a CPLD using a Raspberry Pi DON'T connect the 3.3V line as it can fry the chip if the RPi powers up before the power to the chip.

This makes good sense! Yes of course, as 3v3 is provided by the voltage converter on the DFB1 anyways. I'll do this thx.

All seems good
@Badwolf next will be to try in a my Falcon - but I might be a bad student and put TT ram on first. Will see how I feel. :D
