Well, no update on my erasable 27c4096's, but the Mega STE is now in Bury St Edmunds :)

What's slightly annoying is, it's only about an hour away, but I can't go and pick it up :(

In other news, how about this for a stupid Falcon price for a spares/repair machine: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Atari-Falcon ... 0290.m3507

I've come to the conclusion that a Falcon is a pipedream, I couldn't in all good conscience spend that sort of money, or even half that.

Its like @terriblefire said in his stream last night, what can the falcon do which a ST with a DSP and 030 and extra video modes couldn't do ? Well a bit more to it maybe, but once we have a 030 running at 50mhz , or even a plain 68000, it will allow us to have higher resolutions and we can run rings around the falcon then. The falcon has some nice stuff, but do people really need it anyway.

Quite. I think now they are just for dedicated collectors. It's not just about affording it, it's about justifying it to my family.

The Mega STE is justifiable, just, and I may even look to sell some of my ST's once this Covid rubbish is out of the way, but that is silly money for what is essentially my hobby.

I really think the Falcon's are now like expensive Supercars that dont really work and people keep passing the problem on to the next idiot.

and TF cards are like Hot Hatches. Makes your standard base model hardware run just like a more expensive model but for a great price and the base hardware is easy to service, maintain and buy (ish) ;)

I think you summed it up there quite succinctly!

Six days from ordering to landing your shores is practically warp speed for a Chinese order. :D

I know, I'm mega surprised, not to mention surprised at how good the tracking is.

As long as the parts actually work, then we're hot to trot.

Amstrad 386 portable on my workbench, not booting and weird beeps from the speaker. Battery was about to leak from what I can tell, so it's gone now, and need to work out what the pinout on the weird connection is from the PSU and where and what the voltages are so I can test.

PSU is a forest of caps so that may be a good starting point, though the initial inspection doesn't suggest any leakage.
