Been giving it some editing..
So it was indeed the probe.. Not even any thermal compound or anything :roll:

So I ripped it off and put it at the corner of the tank. Idea that with it being closer to the heater element, it will get better " feedback" as to what the temperature actually is. So I taped it on and blocked off one of the ventilation holes to reduce the airflow corner of the tank.

So the first test was that 22c. The thermal probe said 22.2..Close enough I thought.....

Next test went completely bonkers. This time moving to 35c. it was heating for a long time so I checked the probe again.. And it was almost 60c!! Feking stupid IR thermal probes!!

So increased to 38c and got my oldskool probe out. The heater was still on at this point and it had just ticked over to 39.8c.

It actually turned off at 40.3c. But I am not really concerned about the slide overshoot anyway. As it will probably lose a couple of degrees as the heater element has now turned off.

I left it running for a bit to enable the fan, and the temperature did not move during a 10 minute run.
There is still a smell to it but nowhere near as bad as before. My workshop doesn't have smog now!! As the IR probe was given me apparently too high of readings, I remember having troubles with this probe when trying to measure my hot end on my 3-D printer. I think it was measuring low all the time. So God knows what the temperature actually was originally when I measured 74c. I could not hold my finger in the water it was that hot, nevermind what temp the actual sides would have been. The maximum temperature quoted in the specification is 80c. But I don't think the thing should be trying to destroy itself at that temperature :lol: :roll:
Anyway, the display on the thing now tallies with what I am actually measuring on my thermal probe. At least moving the probe closer to the heater well help prevent it massively overshooting like it was doing before.
TL;DR.
exxos fu*cked around with it and seems better now.
