I'm running out of room in the Falcon ROM now

The buffer underrun on the CPU is a speed limitation of ROM access... if only it ran faster...

@exxos Can't you use the Hitachi EPROMs for this rather than OTP ROMs (Microchip/Armel) to save a bit of cost?

You still have them listed in your store ;)

Edit - I'll be interested in the final version for my Falcon too (if/when it breaks again)...

Yeah, but I spend more time trying to straighten the pins on the things than anything.. and I get in a bother as I don't know if the code is broken or the ROM is not making good contact.

I keep trying to find some better EPROMs, but not had any luck so far :(

Most likely make the end posts out of metal.. because.. reasons..

Possible if the socket pins bend a bit, the wires can flow more at 45 deg and can then get some heat shrink tubing over them. Failing that, might have to resort to liquid bodge tape or resin

Are you planning to use a relay for the 030/060 switch or how is that going to be solved?

Worth the effort or soldertail fuse?

Can't you boot from the cartridge port? Then you could use cheap UV Eproms or a Sidecartridge.

Btw, this would be a really nice project. There's a ton of solutions for putting replacement chips/PCBs into ST/STE sockets but when it comes to Falcon, zero. So anyone with Falcon is stuck with the stock ROM and yeah, when you are investigating a broken machine, wiring up CT60 (to use its flash from) and wait for it to take the lead in booting is quite pointless...
