Finally after getting back from France I was able to properly get my hands on my birthday present from my wife - an Atari XEGS:

Very happy to have one of these in my collection, and this one is nicely upgraded and came with not one, but 2 A8 Pico carts, though I need to try my SIDE3 in it too.

As well as the machine and keyboard there were other items included;

I didn't really need the XC12 as I already have 2 of them, but it was part of the package. Also included was an original PSU (I won't use this as I have a modern replacement, but handy to have), an SDrive MAX a set of paddle controllers and the acid green box has what seems to be an FTTI adapter in it, so I expect it'll be for connecting to a PC and using something like Aspeqt.

Over all a very nice little haul :)

Well, we have a Vent Axia extractor fan in the bathroom, and recently it stopped working. It would chug away, but never fully start.

Surprise surprise there is an electrolytic capacitor in there and guess what? Looks fine but won't even test on my component tester. I swapped it out for one with a higher voltage rating (220uF 105C, but I swapped 10v for 25V) so lets see how long that lasts as the original only lasted 3 years. Works fine now.

There is a hot spot on the plastic cover where the cap is, slightly yellow and that gave it away a bit. We have the same fan in our en-suite too, so expecting to have to fix that soon too. I've also turned the run time down from about 20 minutes to 5, so that should hopefully extend the life too.

Feels like planned obsolescence to me...

Can't remember the make of our extractor fan, but I also had the same thing.
I thought it was the bulb but after changing that it was still playing up, then a Google search pointed to a YouTube video where the capacitor was highlighted as the issue.
So I replaced it and it started working again!

Yeah, bad caps seem to be a thing

They probably recycle the old good ATARI's Wang caps...
