Boy, sometimes things are infuriating...

I have a Dell Vostro 1700, it's old but it's useful because it has 2 hard drive bays, and I've decided to build a multi OS machine by having a 256GB OS drive and a 1TB storage drive onto which I store images of the installed OSes and I can then use Clonezilla to stream any image onto the OS drive at any time, and I get a reasonably up to date installation that just needs upadting.

I need Windows XP for a few things, so start installing. OK I need to hit F6 and install an extra driver, which it finds on my USB floppy. Great.

Start the install, it then asks for the drivers disk to be inserted into drive A:, the same drive that worked 2 minutes ago, but nope, now it can't see drive A: any more for some bizzarre reason!!!

:pullhair: :pullhair: :pullhair:

So now looking like I need to slipstream the drivers into a new build installation, so will see if I can build a USB installer with them included.

Woohoo, found a great tool called nLite that allowed me to build a new XP ISO with the SATA drivers streamed and it's now up and running :)

Now need to get all the drivers for the other items installed, but I can access them on the 2nd HDD so much easier now the OS is installed.

I could build another ISO I suppose with all the drivers streamed, but this'll do for now, and once I've built it I will clone to an image with Clonezilla :)

Well, I ordered this back on the 6th May, and it finally turned up today. To be fair it was a pre-order, but got put back twice before I received it:

Yep, it's a brand spanking new CX78+ joypad, just released. To the right is the original CX78 for comparison.

The new one is mostly identical, with the exception that rather than use a cheap phenolic PCB, super cheap wiring connectors and clicky metal domes, it has the more modern joypad components with rubber domes, a proper connector and a fibreglass PCB that is probably about twice as thick as the original. It also has a brass insert for the 'mini stick' to screw into rather than just plastic. Build quality is nice.

I've yet to test it (I feel the 7800 is the best testbed) but I'll report back when I have :)

Well the CX78+ is just fine, I broke out the 7800 quickly, its a bit stiffer than the original, otherwise a perfect analog, and for me a great little pad, especially since I loved the original.

The diagonals are great, even with the mini stick fitted, so I'm very happy for £19.99.

I had one as a kid, and I had a lot of fun with it. More pics when it gets here.

Wish I'd carried on what I learned with it, but really good little sets.
