Definitely slippage. Is the spring clamping the idler tightly enough?
One other thing that it could be (a problem I think I'm seeing at the moment) is that the extruder can't physically extrude the filament fast enough for demand. Slowing down the print speed may help.
30mm/s is pedestrian, but would rule that out, at least.

Its not the speed (though I understand why) I've done some mods.. will post shortly to see if they helped...

The fan on the extruder is there to keep the extruder and filament cool until it enters the hot end.

Yeah but it doesn't because the heatsink is blocking the air flow.. its only cooling the mounting block for the heads.

I have taken the heatsink off. It was basically where the large spaces are now. It would only cool the block (albeit poorly) by the heatsink. But the contact area was very small and no thermal paste either so is questionable if it really did anything at all.
So the heatsink is gone, the fan can now cool the block itself, the filament assembly, and the motor itself. All is running considerably cooler now.
I also back the motor away from the assembly with small washes as the heat from the motor and the bar all be transferred the cogs and ultimately to the filament.

Initial tests with a bit of tension by hand on the filament thing to limit me to about 250mm / min even at 250c temp (PLA) .
But I have never tried anything that slow before, the defaults were around 5500 mm / min in software. The filament that slow would take like a 5min parts more like a hour :roll:
But I will go down to this slow speed and I suspect the problem will not be there, but this is not really a realist use a printer at :roll:

@exxos Ouch, I was going to buy one of those printers once, glad I didn't now. Far too much stuff wrong for what should be a plug in and go job.

I've forgotten which printer this is. Is it a Prusa(sp?) one? I've heard that you have to mod them heavy to make them useful.

The one im messing with is the Flashforge Dreamer. I purchased this one as after two years of messing about I gave up with the i3 and looked for something ready built ready to go, which was why I brought the dreamer. I think it is more of a beginner printer. Alright if you just simply want to mess about with. For doing any sort of accurate work it is total junk.
I think a lot of the problems was there was no way to calibrate anything because it was Flashforge's own software in the thing. I'm using the latest Marlin software now so I can at least calibrate the thing. Those problems seem to be basically solved now.
I am now printing at a very low speed a 50x50x1mm square. Estimate says 26 minutes.. Though I guess as the print layer is at 0.20mm I guess I could double the print speed to 500mm / min.
Not really sure what is a good print time for such a small object ?

Can someone measure their extruder tip's temperature ? Mine seems to be about 80c.. not sure if that's normal or not..
