Not having any spare 16KBx4bit RAM, I dropped in one of the 64KBx4bit ICs in not expecting it to work, but lo and behold, I have a working 600XL!!! I swapped out the working 16KBx4bit IC for one of the other 64KBx4bit ICs, and it's still all good.
Great news! I can imagine your satisfaction. 8-)
You know. I had forgotten, but this thread reminded me that my very first Atari was a 600XL :)
Thank you 😁 Although this isn't the one I actually owned, the 600xl was also my first Atari, so has special memories. It's nice to have resurrected this one, and of course I really appreciate your input too.

I know!
This thread was in danger of becoming another Mega ST sized affair.

Great result @rubber_jonnie
Glad you have sorted that one at last.
Kudos
As seems to often happen, I get great ideas from folks on the forum, that lead to thoughts about what I can do next that are then applied late at night!
Still work to do to to get it to where I want it to be, but feeling pretty pleased it's running.

Ok, so have done a few iterations of the SuperSalt cart testing and we are looking fine and dandy.
Nearly all my carts work, the exceptions being SIDE3 and Star Raiders II, which I think both need more than 16K of RAM.
So, I guess I'd better try and get the 64k expansion working :)

Good luck! :-)
At least you have a known good base to start from.

Indeed. It is in theory a simple upgrade, but given my experiences here, perhaps not so much.

Do we get a pic of it working? :)
