JLC give you an option of paying the customs fees in advance, I use that, it always works out cheaper for me.

Not when you hit this size of package. At least i dont remember there being an option. Either that or it was about the same.

For me JLC charges about $50 more than actually having DHL handle it.

What is in that fee?
Custom tax+vat + handling fees?

Seems to be. Never get a breakdown from DHL.

I do remember in your initial post you expected a customs hit, that is more like a gut punch.
I usually take the approach, "well I think it will cost that much", then budget double that amount, I know that is a glass
half empty approach, but certainly needed with government fees in OZ.

Hmm postal journey from UK to Australia will begin shortly now there is mystery time-frame ATM :roll:

I have a fair bit of experience of this so i dont quite got the full victorian engineering route. i was expecting about £80.

Nothing from DHL again today. Really find them a pain.

Update: Phoned DHL. The package has been sitting in Glasgow DHL office since Tuesday morning so demanded an explanation. They have not enough staff to process the volume they have right now is the answer i got. They said it will come tomorrow.
