I'll need to Flash my beta Trudie then at some point. Any special device/software needed to flash it?

You need a atmel programmer. But don't know what boards are out there anymore. But it would have been flashed anyway. But we long past beta boards now anyway.

Just got a notification that Trudie has been shipped... Finally...

So I have the fun task of verifying flashyclock and Trudie actually work as they are supposed to fixing up the firmware etc soon.

I think these things ended up costing a lot more and was intended :( indeed parts shortages really not helped. But I really did not want either of these projects to drag on for any longer as it is literally been years in development now. So hopefully soon I can tick the boxes for those projects being done and I can forget about them then.

Some time later...

Found I had 50 of these made by PCBway back in 2022 ! It was a real PITA because of parts shortages etc. tracing back the costs of all the parts and assembly and whatnot is going to take some time to figure out after all this time!

So this is the first one ever out of the bag !


I remember I completely rewrote the firmware towards the end.. I think I was plotting to put in 5volt protection so people did not blow them up but I think it was proving to be more trouble than it was worth.

The notes in my firmware don't seem to suggest anything is not finished.. So I just need to compile it and actually do the final testing...

Nothing is getting in my way this time.. The world can burn.. I'm not getting sidetracked this time !!

This likely means these PLD are fakes :(

It looks like theres 3 styles of printing on the PLDs.. I checked on some Flashy clock ones as well (think I got 27 made)


These 2 are not recognised.

So basically theres 40 TRUDIE which are likely now junk as they all have the "top aligned text" and likely not many flashyclocks which will work either as they seem a mixed bag. So that was a complete waste of time and money now then :(

Only thing I can do is order some PLDs from RS and just try to salvage a few TRUDIE for now. It's either that or restart the project on a new build which I don't thinks really worth all the time involved at this point.

I think I may have a stash of these ATF1508ASVs somewhere. I'll take a look tomorrow.

Could you do a CPU offset board with 5V protection ?

Problem is it would still depend on the user to plug it all in correctly and it would add more cost. I was trying to think how to protect TRUDIE if a user plugs it into the 5v bus. But its clearly labeled and if people kill it then that's their own fault. They will have to buy another one and read the instructions next time.

Thanks. Might not be worth it though as I'm going to need like 60 of the things anyway. But also do we know where those chips came from...
